I agree with everything you said about comparing JUCO's to 4 year guys. I don't agree however with "Auburn and Clemson are pretty good offers".

I was just comparing those offers to the grand scheme of things to what Gaines had received. Auburn and Clemson still have to play against tough competition day in and day out. Especially with Clemson in the ACC.

But at the same time Id argue by saying any school in the ACC or SEC is a pretty good offer. I would take it as they feel this kid has what it takes to compete with the Kentuckys and Dukes of the world.

Its just nice to see we arent the only Bigger D1 school going after this guy. An offer from Auburn or Clemson is better than an offer from lets say Illinois State..or actually IMO even Depaul or Rutgers

I never said he was a center in the NBA. My question is what didn't make him a center in college? A 6'9" thin (though he was not JJ thin, he was still damn strong) and athletic was a center back in '99.

And it's still a center in 2013 in college ball too.

Yea i can see how a high D1 offer can be viewed as a solid offer but personally Clemson and Auburn don't give me the same interest as an upper Big East school offer such as Cuse, Uconn, Ville, Nova, Quette

Djitte is on a visit to Memphis. Memphis is a quality offer. Gaines has no feel for the game and if the early graduation rumor is true is probably gone. Maybe if Mick can't find better players all current guys will be back ???

Disagree. The early entry into the NBA Draft has taken all quality centers after 1 year.

The entry to the NBA was even earlier back then, i.e. straight out of high school. There would not have even been an Oden, Noel, A. Davis, Monroe, Drummond, etc. back then.

this list surprises the shit out of me:eek:

I don't think that list was 100% accurate. Offer sheets rarely are. Not only that, all big men late in the recruiting process are a premium. Usually in the spring period there are a number of raw big men that get decent offers because schools are scrambling.

Does going after this guy make sense to anyone if Mormon qualified? If we get him we'd be 2 scholarships over the limit. Gaines would probably leave and then what? I don't think it makes sense to take anyone else's scholarship to make room for a relatively unknown center. I think either Morman didn't qualify or there is a player that isn't happy and wants to transfer

Totally agree, doesn't make sense to me as well

It is what it is. We dont have any idea whats really going on and who is staying or going. But just my honest opinion, which isnt much since im nobody important and know nothing other than what is shared and just my common knowledge of basketball, I dont know how much i would care if any of our players transferred other than Shaq, JDIII(because we havent seen much of him), and and our incoming freshmen. Excluding SK because we already know he isnt going anywhere.

Guyn, Sanders, Gaines, Nyarsuk, Rubles and Jackson just arent any fun to watch. And I watch the UC Product for the entertainment and pleasure and I havent gotten that from these guys.

Billy Beanes quote is sadly how i view all of my teams and I feel like the majority of Cincinnati sports fans feel this way.

"I hate losing more than I like winning"

Who is a real big man? I would just like to know so I know who you are complaining about UC not getting.

I honestly don't know, I don't follow recruiting that much. I'd just like to get a big man that has some experience playing the position and is being recruited by some other schools. Get a guy in here who played C in high school, doesn't have to be a 7 footer or a potential all american, just a solid big man who has some bball IQ and skills.

There are plenty of schools out there with a lot less prestige than UC that are finding serviceable big men that have some offensive skills. I'd rather go after the 2 or 3 star guy than grab the 7 footer from Senegal who has been playing basketball for 2 years and isn't going to pan out.

Simple fact is Mick has tried this route, several times, and it hasn't worked once. Time to try something different.

Those kids are "projects" that happen to develop. And the only reason you see any of them is because they do develop and that team makes the NCAA Tourney. The schools that get kids that don't develop, don't make the tourney and you never hear from them.

Lets hold judgement either way until we see him play live. Same goes with JD3, can't form an opinion on a player you haven't seen in almost a whole year.
