Crosstown future

Eggs has been a pretty good team of late. A win against Eggs certainly holds more value than a win against many of the teams from the conferences you are talking about.

And then, if you are going to take that position, why would any of those upper echelon teams from those conference play us instead of UCONN, Cuse, etc?

I think a lot of UC fans don't like to admit that. IMO, there are not many teams from the big 6 conferences that you could realistically schedule that would be better than X.

Not trying to bash UC, but you are right, how will UC be able to schedule top dogs from other conferences? I don't see UC being able to get a Kansas, UK, MSU, OSU, Duke, UNC type of school on their schedule.

Why can't you do both? You can still play XU every year and keep the rivalry and add additional games to our non conference schedule. You don't think UK and OSU are going to look at UC right now and ask the same question about playing us that you're asking about us playing XU?

I think you can. I was playing a little Devil's advocate. I already stated that, while I would be ok with losing the XU game IF another marquee game was put on the schedule, I would prefer to add a marquee game AND still play XU.

Ironically, the Cintas Center has become classless for the Crosstown Shootout. I can't speak for the other games they play there because why in the world would I go to one of those?

Fans behavior there this year was horrendous, particularly for a Jesuit/Catholic institution.

I understand the hesitancy to play there.

Also, Xavier is dumb.

How many examples do you need, Vanderbilt, Butler, Purdue and then UC all had issues with Xavier. Notice the common denominator there? Xavier has been taking chances on questionable characters for a while, much like UC did when they were trying to make a name for themselves. Lavender, Frease, Crawford and now Lyons and Holloway all have created a thuggish atmosphere at X and I know a lot of the higher ups haven't been to happy with their behavior...but as all up and coming programs try at some point, they sold their soul to the devil, because they had a chance to be a pretty good team. Sorry but I don't care what they think if we cancel the series, you think Ohio State cares that UC/XU/Dayton fans complain that they'll never play them? Just drop them from the schedule if that is how the program is going to be run and hell start a series with Dayton, Indiana, Purdue, whoever I don't care as long as they have good computer numbers because as we see those are really screwing UC over right now.

Dropping the Crosstown Shootout is the worst idea ever. It's such a great rivalry game, to lose it would be a disaster. Some players got in a fight, ugly moment for both programs, get over it and move on.

It's not the first time there has been a fight in this game, punches have been thrown before and I didn't see anyone back then saying we should cancel the shootout. Calling for the end of this great game is more a reflection on the current times than anything else. People are so uptight now a days it's pathetic. Everyone is ready to drop a great rivalry and great tradition because of a bad incident, what a joke.

UC fans and coaches talking about canceling the shootout sounds more like sour grapes to me than anything else.

As a UC fan the Shootout is one of the most anticipated events of the year and it's always a fun day. Hopefully a bunch of self-righteous idiots don't allow their overreactions to a bad situation to cost the fans a great rivalry.

The pussification of America continues..........

Honestly, the same people saying it's pussy, are the ones who are going to be ragging about an impact player, being taken away after a fight.
The past three years, there has been confrontation.
It's tired. It's a fking basketball game. Play it or you don't deserve a scholarship. There's a million idiots, playing in parks across the country who they can join, if they want to act like thugs.

Their fans chant "fuck you" through the national anthem, throw crap at visiting people and are just fags in general...
Who cares about that dinky Jesuit school? Their enrollment is like 1/3 of UC's. Let them sit in the A-10.
If we play them around tournament time, great. I really don't want to see a season ruined because of that retarded game though.
Tradition means very little, next to actual success.

No, I wouldn't be "ragging" if one of our key players got taken away for a season because of a fight against XU or any other school. At this point if another player for UC is stupid enough to get themselves into this kind of a situation again then they should be suspended. If both coaches can't draw enough respect from their players to make sure that nothing like this happens again any time soon then it's time to start looking for new coaches.

Instead of looking at the problem that exists and trying to come to a solution you'd rather just tell everyone to take their things and go home? Canceling the game would be the easy thing to do but it would be a terrible mistake. It's not fair to anyone who's been a part of the rivalry in the past or who could be in the future. If these "leaders" at both schools can't look at this thing and come up with a solution then it's a poor reflection on them.

Personally, I don't think any action needs to be taken. If someone can't go to the game and have a good time without acting like an idiot then it's on them. Idiots exist in the world, there will still be fan altercations at these events and students doing stupid things, no one can stop that. To tell everyone else that the game can no longer be played because of the moronic actions of a few is ridiculous. If someone doesn't like it or is worried about it than they can chose not to attend. You don't like the atmosphere at the shootout then don't go, it's as simple as that. If someone is offended by what happens at a sporting event then they have the choice not to attend in the future. If anyone is actually offended by what happened then they probably need to sack up a little bit, what happened doesn't have anything to do with anyone on this board. It was between the players on the court, the coaches and the admins. It's their problem, hopefully they work to find a solution instead of taking the "pussy" way out.

Sir, there have been multiple consecutive years of the same BS.
We know they're idiots, the thing is, their administration does nothing about it. We gain nothing from this game. Nauseating sentiments about the shoot out, do not matter to recent students and quite honestly, pussy or not, I'd rather have the NCAA than be proud, that we beat X. Ladiflippingda.

And suppose someone really does get hurt?
Are you telling me, someone who's career and life is changed, because of your inane need, for this pointless game to be played, should just shrug and say "idiots are everywhere."

Well, I don't know what naive fantasy land you live in, but if I heard that from a fan and I was said player, I'd probably collapse his empty skull in.

Just saying...

From undefeated and 8th in the country to the NIT. Xavier's new motto should be self zipped and bagged. :D

I don't think the series should be discontinued in anyway. I think the schools should do something to address the fans behavior if/when they get out of line and I think better officiating should be in place (I think that will no longer be an issue after what happened and the public fallout). What I do think would be a mistake is playing the game at a neutral site. Imagine a 50/50 crowd of UC/XU fans. There would be brawls in the seats every year. Like anything in life, learn from the mistakes that have happened in the recent past and address those issues. This is a great and natural rivalry. Fans need it and players need it.

I know this adds nothing to the convo but Fu*k eggsavier, they are pus*ies in a pus*y league. I love umass right now. Anyone else catch Seton hall woop gtown?
