Kay--NFL?

I am not sure I agree here but let's say we are talking about a Kay (pre shot arm which seems to still be pretty good). Or let's say he gets surgery and is back to normal.

How does he grade out at the NFL combine with his normal abilities?

Tough to say, as he has never really been given a shot to be the quarterback. Whether it be Munchie this year or last year, Luallen constantly subbing in and out. I do think he is a good QB and highly misjudged by both CBJ and TT. Munchie can't throw is not on the same level as Kay. I know I wasn't at practice, but Munchie didn't have any of the intangibles that Kay has. Kay has had multiple shoulder surgeries and struggles with shoulder fatigue. If they can fix up his arm, I think he would get a shot at the NFL. Problem is, it's tough to be a good QB without a good shoulder. Look what happened to Carson after he messed up his arm (granted, his problems were more in his elbow). I hope he gets a shot, but I wouldn't count on it, given his medical history.

OK so this has been mentioned a couple times now. This seems to be a good reason to doubt his NFL prospects. IDK how bad his shoulder is...but if it's that bad I am wondering how he can produce as well as he has. He still seems to have zip on his ball...much better than Munchie. I doesn't seem to be holding him back that much right now.

However, I am still wondering, without the shoulder problem, how would he grade out at an NFL combine? If his shoulder injury can't be fixed...that is a huge problem...if it can be fixed what are his prospects?

Just did a quick search for 2014 NFL QB prospects. This was the first link I looked at. It looks as if he might be on the outside looking in...but will at least be looked at.

I am still wondering how he will grade at the combine since that will be one of the biggest ways he can move up the draft board (as well as finishing out the year strong). He could also play his way onto a roster ala Thompkins.

Three of the players on this list are Sophs the way it looks...so he may only have to pass up about 5 guys to get drafted. That is conceivable since Kay got off to a slow start because of injury...but is now playing quite well.

There are probably also players not on the list who could enter the draft. So I would say Kay's chances (according to this list) would rely on a strong finish to this season and a good show at the combine.

If we look at our top 3 QB prospects (that I can think of). Gidugli, Pike, and Collaros. I don't recall a lot about Gidugli's overall skill set but I would say that Kay would grade out better at NFL combines than Collaros or Pike. Gidugli had a brief stint in the NFL as an undrafted free agent (then went CFL). Collaros worked out for TB Buccs but didn't make it (currently playing in CFL). Pike was drafted late by the Panthers and eventually cut due to injury and then tried again with the Bengals but didn't make it.

Pike's arm strength was his main issue. For Collaros it was height. Not sure about Gidugli. I still think Kay has the better overall NFL attributes (not sure on Gidugli).

No and LOL, this can't be a serious question.

Well he is on the draft board at least...not too far away from where it predicts QB's to get drafted. I am not sure why it's so funny.

Let's look at QB efficiency ratings of some of our best recent QB's. Guys who either were drafted, made an NFL roster for at least one season or worked out for at least one NFL team that showed interest. I am not sure what all goes into this rating but I think TD's, yards, completion %, and INT's are in there.

Gidugli (our all time stat leader)...his last two years had a QB effec. rating of 146.5 and 113 for an average of about 130ish. Gidugli made an NFL team in free agency but was not drafted. Then played CFL.

Pike...149.8 and 136.4 for an average of 143ish. Was drafted late and is no longer in the NFL.

Collaros...137.5 and 131.8 for an average of 135ish. Got a look from TB to work out for the team. Didn't make it. Playing CFL right now starting I believe.

Kay...163.1 and 163.5 for an average of 163.3. For the record Munchie was at 125.7 and 123. Kay has a stronger arm than most of these guys and has a quick release. He also has plenty of size. He definitely isn't as mobile as Collaros but is also no Peyton Manning in the mobility dept. These days QB's who can run are given a little more attention than they use to but the pocket passer with a good arm is still the top priority.

I understand people who say they "just don't see it"...but I am still trying to figure out which of his attributes would be holding him back. His QB effeciency rating is MUCH higher than our best and he didn't really have a guy like Gilyard or Binns (or both) to work with. I might also add he's been playing injured (which makes me think his real potential is higher).

Kay's QB efficiency rating ranks him 11th in NCAA right now. His last two years averaged out would also rank him 11th when compared to this years QB ratings. The best rating (for just their SINGLE BEST year) of any of the other three UC QB's mentioned would rank 32nd this year. The best average rating for 2 years would put Pike just inside the top 50 compared to this years ratings.

I know it's LOL hillarious to consider that Kay could have NFL potential...but the numbers are sobering IMO.

As if it weren't quite enough. Kay has .THE #1 completion % in the ENTIRE NCAA this year...just ahead of Manziell.

Eh...what a joker

I understand I am not giving very OBJECTIVE reasons as to his NFL possibilities compared to those great objective opinions lilke "Eh I just don't see it" or "are you serious LOL" but at least I am trying.

You are probably right...Kay is a joke...I can't think of any reason he would be considered for the NFL for any rational reasons. Thanks for the solid rational input. What was I thinking??? LOL.

Thanks for bringing up the stats, I would've never guessed that he would've been on the top of the list. I've been a big Kay fan and I really hope he gets a shot at the NFL.

I'll tell you what I would be willing to do. I won't say he will get drafted (because of inury) but I would be willing to bet KAY will get on an NFL team at some point within the next three years (because of his injury). I will bet the first person who takes my bet that he will be on an NFl roster within 3 years. I am not going to take more than one bet...but I will take one. I will buy the first taker of my bet a ticket to their game of choice BB or FB...as long as they will do the same for me. Kay will make the NFL within 3 years.

I will pay up.

Thanks JJ...it's hard for me to look at the actual stats and discount Kay as a great QB. I am guessing most of the fans who have commented so far haven't actually had the time to look or didn't care to.
