New Arena

I agree. Has anyone been to the YUM center? Does it look and feel like a L'ville arena (doesn't the city own it?). I would want the same as far as it feeling like the Cat's arena but would want the venue to be able to attract better concerts, NCAA tourney games, and other events.

Good to hear. As long as the arena looks and feels like a UC arena I am fine with this. Especially if it increases the revenue.

I'm still hard pressed to believe it will increase revenue. Will have to share any revenue generated. They're not going to let us play there for free. Good chance we make nothing on parking. Does the Nederlander group own the attached parking garage, too or does it belong to the city? I know surrounding lots won't generate money for UC. Food will probably generate a less percentage. Aramark now I would assume pays us about half of the money generated, maybe 40%. Going forward the Nederlander group I'm sure would get a cut of whatever percentage we get. How much do we realistically think the boost in attendance would be if at all?

For a building that lacks a lot of the Louisville brand, they sure do a good job of making it look like home. We should follow suit. They do a good job with the red lighting, hanging banners inside, and placing a few smaller cardinal logos at the entrances.

It looks like a few big shots want UC to put up money to lure a damn political convention. There is no way to make that warehouse with seats into a decent bball arena. I went to almost every game there in the 80's but that's it. I'll give up my season tickets if they move there. I would not go there even if the tickets were free.

if they renovate the arena with the addition of the entertainment establishments it will be a entirely different experience then when you went in 80's. Was on the banks for opening day and it was a street party atmosphere. Great time!!! If we can piggyback off that kind of experience with a upgraded facility I'm all for the move. As a Basketball junkie I will go to the games at 5th 3rd but really would like a better facility. If that is us bank that's ok or a new 5th 3rd but something needs to be done.

Damn right. I was there at the Armory Fieldhouse, Cincinnati Gardens, US Bank, and Fifth-Third. I care about this team and program, that's why I think that it would be a major setback to take the show back down there. Top it all off by fulfilling the wishes of people to enhance downtown development or to attract political conventions at our (UC) expense and it is just a horrible horrible idea. People who have not attended a lot of games at US Bank simply have no idea how bad it is, add in the fact that the design and layout of the building make renovation to a state of the art arena either impossible or so expensive that it should be. The only way to remedy that situation is to tear that place down and build a new arena. The thing should never have been built in the first place.

I know that his number is on the wall, but if you are one of the people who think Kenyon Martin is the best center in UC history, then you have not been around long enough to remember Paul Hogue, who really was. I saw Paul play, I've been around and attending games that long.

Certainly appreciate your longtime following of the team but if a renovated US bank can be done as opposed to staying at 5th 3rd I.ll take US Bank.

You can't piggie back off of that experience because The Banks - GABC is totally different. US Bank isn't right next to The Banks and it is in a terrible location. In a perfect world they'd tear down US Bank and place it in downtown core, or even better, OTR somewhere. US Bank is just located in an odd location where it doesn't allow for any development nearby.

us bank is a short stroll to entertainment. That said if they tear it down and build new I'm fine with it.

Hmm, maybe where the underground railroad museum is? A state of the art arena would look great right there

Hah, good luck trying to move that place in today's politically correct society...

No doubt. When I have friends from out of town and I am showing them around downtown, people are so intrigued with the building bc it looks cool. I tell them what it is and they just go, oh and keep walking lol. The only people that attend that place is elementary kids on a field trip. Such a waste.

This city desparately needs a new arena, Cincinnati has fallen behind in it's ability to pull major concerts, major events/conventions, even the possibility of an NBA or NHL franchise because it's arena is locked in the 70's. Not sure where the cash would come from but an upgraded arena would be huge to the city's economy if it could only afford to build it.

Maybe being on the short list for the RNC drives the city in that direction.

Plus, summer nights are alot different than Tuesday night games in January. And correct me if I'm wrong but if we move down there, Huggins still won't be the coach, so...

I still don't get how we just assume this city is all of a sudden going to embrace the Bearcats and sell out games by moving them downtown. We are a city of whiners and complainers. We will find reasons not to go down to games. If the Nederlander wants to throw a bunch of money around and truly bring a nice arena to the city then more power to them. We can entertain the thought of moving down there when that happens. UC would be foolish to put money into anything but an on-campus arena. If big donors want the republican convention here so bad then let them work their friends into securing money TO UC to build itself a venue. UC at this point is being used as bait to get this arena deal done for all it can do to help the city, blah, blah, blah. The question is what does UC get out of it if we're expected to put up money for it? It won't be their arena, they won't get additional revenue from it. If the city wants this done, ask the taxpayers for money to get it done. If the Nederlander wants to improve it's arena then they need to put up the money and let the chips fall where they may. This city hasn't done anything for UC, nor has it's citizens. Why should we allow ourselves to be their bargaining chip? We already have plans to put an interchange at 71 and MLK to open up that area for development and growth. Why doesn't the city put up part of Burnet Woods for either UC to build an arena or for the city to build an arena there. UC gave them that space anyways from what I understand. Why are we letting a privately-owned dump be our end all be all conversation for a real arena in this city? UC has done plenty to clean up the areas it controls in Clifton. Ludlow is a nice area, if the city can make an effort to clean up the short vine area and the neighborhood directly south of campus which is mostly student living anyway then an arena in the Burnet Woods area could be a great spot to develop. You could make it so parking isn't an issue and the new interchange will go a long way to alleviate traffic issues. Hopefully work on that interchange starts soon. Sorry for the rant guys, but I'm getting tired of this discussion when it's becoming clearer and clearer that UC is being used.

From my understanding Burnett woods can not be used for anything other than a park. It had that stipulation tied to it when it was donated.

I'm sure we could get Burnett Woods and clear that area out and build an arena there if we really wanted to. The question is do we really want to?
