The Official Bob Huggins Thread

Huggins is gone as UC's coach and is never coming back as such. Mick Cronin will be UC's coach for many, many, years to come and that makes me as happy as a clam at high tide.

Honestly, it's stuff like this that makes me mad. MDW said it earlier, you can say what you want here and I like that. However, it seems almost that with the more leeway that was given, the more respectable people were? Or maybe it was that we are trying to have good conversation, and don't just say stuff like what Ralph said above.

It honestly added no value to the perfectly good, thought out conversations going on. I think this was clearly an attempt to bait people. That's what I don't like about Ralph, everyone was cool talking about huggins/cronin. There was

If that's how he feels about Huggins, he can at least talk about it in a reasonable way, not the way he went about it. Maybe go in depth. It's almost as if he was mad we were all getting along, and over whatever he had to say, so he needed to say something again.

UC going on NCAA probation was really big news around these parts in 1998.

PS Probation was not big news. The incoming class of Demarr Johnson, Kenny Satterfield, and Leonard Stokes (Funfact: Was Mr New York over Satt) was bigger to most fans.

I never remember the threat of losing a scholarship outweighing the success of those teams. The '98 team beat Duke, I think everyone woke up their neighbors at 2am b/c of the Alaska time, and the 99 team was a NC favorite even heading into their year. The probation was a blip on the radar for most.

Once you guys realize Ralph is a blind homer you wont argue as much with him. He isnt changing his mind, he makes UC out to be what they arent (national powerhouse...this year) and IF huggins was still here he would be blindly supporting him too. Probably hates BK and thinks UC is better off without him also

I am thankful and very appreciative for the work that the mods at BCN have done over the last year or so.

That site was becoming littered with venom in all directions, which is not good for the school, sports programs (in particular bball), etc., especially considering it is a very, very popular site.

The mods have done a great job at BCN. It's not about what was being said, it was about how posters were going about saying it...

Strong work Lobot. You've done well at BCN. There was a time when I didn't check that site at all (and it was the ONLY site I checked for about two years), but now I post all the time.

Once again, I appreciate how you've helped clean-up BCN. The only upgrade could be making GreatOne a mod? hahaha

Completely agree. Lobot and others have done a great job at BCN cleaning up this site. I have been banned on more than one occasion, thus it certainly can't be said that they have played favoritism and banned only the anti-Mick crowd. With the team being 18-3, 5-3 in the BE, shouldn't all Bearcat sites be pro-Mick currently. If JuliePitzer wants an anti-Mick site, she should return to the comments section after the articles on cincinnati.com. She will find more like minded "Bearcat fans".

This has got to be one of the dumbest statements I have ever read...anywhere.

So what is the "Cats fan" that you morph into that no longer is a person?

Seriously time to think about implementing an age limit on these forums.

Be careful, you don't want her husband to come on here and tell you that you 'sicken' him.

Mick has not gone to the NCAA tourney due to the inability to win games. Losing to teams like Wofford kept UC out of the dance.

Mick has not gone to the NCAA Tourney because Bob Huggins destroyed the UC basketball program making it almost impossible to recruit players good enough to make the NCAA Tourney. See Tom Crean at Indiana, a program with lots of good basketball tradition and a big name coach.

Your statement about Huggins is as insane as some of your post. The BOT's destroyed the program with their poor handling of many issues. Huggins saved us from the Yates years and gave fans a reason finally to travel to Clifton. Now look where we have come since he was removed. It has been 5 years now rebuilding and attendance still is in the toilet. We have to rely on fans from other schools to help sell out our home arena and that is sad. I support the program through and through, but I am also very aware that UC has major problems with its image amongst our fan base.

As far as the hardship in bringing talent here. Recruits come and visit our campus and attend games. What they see is a comatose fan base and that, more than anything, is the lingering impression these players leave Clifton with.

As a little insight, it's alway been my theory that if you treat people like adults, they will behave like adults. I also believe the inverse to be true, in that placing too many restrictions on people tends to make them behave like bratty children. A few members here are doing their damnedest to prove my theory wrong.

If you think it's possible I'm talking about you, I probably am.

From Commissioner Mike Tranghese in the Enquirer 2-11-2009:

At the start of her tenure as the University of Cincinnati's 25th president, it was up to Nancy Zimpher to help provide the final push to get the school into the Big East Conference.

What she did during those meetings with university presidents might remain her lasting legacy to her 5-year, 4-month tenure at UC.
"Nancy hadn't even stepped foot in her office on campus and she was in Pittsburgh speaking to our presidents about Cincinnati joining the Big East. After hearing the presentation from her, it was only a matter of time before we continued the process and offered them an invitation to join," said Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese on Tuesday.
Although most people saw the Big East as a boon for athletics, it was Zimpher's extolling of UC's academic reputation that proved to be a key component in the conference offering an invitation.

Good stuff Ralph. I did not know that. But let's be fair it does say,"Although most people saw the Big East as a boon for athletics", The majority opinion obviously supported this point of view. It also says Zimpher's efforts were quote, "a key component", not "the component.

Let's give credit all the way around. Nancy may have pushed it over the hump, but the UC Basketball success got them on the hill.

He is definitely a jerk but does know a lot about UC Basketball. I will give him that. Wouldnt want to sit and have a beer with him though.

PLEASE, stop with the name calling or I may have to get my wife to come on here and defend me. Wait. Thats not a good example as she will likely agree with you. My kids think I'm perfect, though.
