That mentality works for a guy like Tom Izzo. I mean look at Michigan State this year, they are probably just as talented as the last two teams that made the Final Four but are not playing well at all this year. Does that make Izzo a bad coach? Absolutely not. In his situation you can blame the players for a lack of leadership, intensity, blah blah. He is has proven that he take a team of that skill level to the Final Four so you can put it on the players this year.

Mick doesn't have the luxury. Did you listen to the post game? He continuously said that the guys didn't pay attention to detail, they didn't follow the scouting report, and didn't execute the final play properly. He has now said that 6 or 7 times in Big East games!! That clearly means that it is on him, he didn't blame them for missed shots...like you are saying. He blamed the loss for a failure to execute the game plan. And that is on the Head Coach.

I am not trying to praise Cronin or anything but seriously read and think what you said. The players don't listen to the scouting report etc. Shall we just sit them all. Let a bunch of 18-23 year olds push the coach out. I am pretty sure they came to play for Cincinnati and Cronin. They wouldn't come here if they didn't like him. Maybe they just aren't as good as you want them to be.

How is that not the players fault? What do you recommend he do? Bench the entire team and not play anymore games? The coaches draw up a game plan and the players do not listen or focus...

I recommend he get the players to listen to him and execute the game plan. That is what he is being paid to do and he is currently sucking at it.

I don't expect this team to win the Big East title, and I certainly don't expect them to go undefeated. I do expect them to execute a game plan and follow a scouting report. If they lose, then so be it, but at least do what the coach is telling you to do.

So many people want to blame Mick it is ridiculous. How about you hold the players, the ones who play on the court, accountable. Yes, of course the coach is going to be looked at and questioned. But, like said earlier, its the same players doing the same bone head mistakes. Not being aggressive, missing FT's, and not doing little things bball players do, falls on the PLAYERS. Shooting 53% from FT's today, like so many of our losses is a huge key. Maybe the players just aren't as good as you want them to be. Offensive plays, sure that can be a coaches fault. But you can not seriously tell me they do not tell their players to attack the basketball. Of course they do, our players just aren't very strong at doing that. Same with free throws, of course they work on them in practice but they lack mental concentration. Its so easy for someone to point at the coach and blame him instead of looking at the people on the court who actually play.

Coaching 101. Put your players in the best positon to be productive and win games. Not one of Micks teams has been good at shooting free throws. Not one of Micks teams has been able to progress in a season. Not one of Micks teams has had a HIgh IQ.

You would think that by now Mick would have an identity of players he wants to recruit and the style of offense hes going to go with. Running a half court set offensively is flat out not going to get it done. You have guys with no bball IQ out there running a half court offense that is generating no points. In a half court offense you are more prone to get to the line vs an uptempo game.

What you do have out there are athletes. Let them be athletic

Coaches recruit players. Players don't recruit coaches

So we don't get rid of him because we are scared to start over??? Using that logic why is any coach ever fired??

i hear your point but i think we are closer to becoming a good program than we are if we get a new coach. i still think we get better each year and the seniors will be gone and replaced by players that mick truely wants in the program.
and if we did fire can we find anyone better that will want to stay? thats what scares me is our school will become the next xavier. the second a coach touches success he is gone

I agree. It just is mind blowing that almost every game they lose it is said how the players do not listen to details and follow the game plan. Yes that is the a coaches fault but seriously, what is the players problems then? It just doesn't make sense. Even more puzzling, it honestly seems like every player has that problem. I for one do not know how to fix it and I am guessing the coaching staff has been scratching their head with it too. Just seems both parties are at fault.

every player we have has a obvious weakness

dixon- confidence
jackson-raw
thomas-weak
gates-motivation
cash-leadership
bishop-our most complete but as we saw today he falls asleep at the most important moments
killa-defense and cant dribble
davis-insonsistent
mclain-slow

i guess you can fault mick for recruiting players with such large weaknesses but i dont think you can fire him over it

That is probably one of the worst post I have ever read on this site. Are you that blind or lacking something upstairs?! Clearly he has got the best players he could get to come to UC. Open your eyes, UC isn't a top place to go and is not desired among recruits. He has done more than a sufficient recruiting job with the resources that are available to him.

ha thats my exact point. the best players he can get to come here are not the type that are going to win big like some of the fan base expects them to

I guess I am just wondering what available coach would be a good coach to bring in better players?

thats what i asked earlier. and the answer is none. we arent pulling someone away from a school of equal rank and there are very few up and coming coaches out there. if we fire him we will fade to oblivion much quicker than if we keep him

Ain't life grand?! Just another day being a UC sports fan.

Yea, must be pretty tough recruiting in one of the most powerful conferences of ALL TIME in any sport...

Regardless, if people are going to bitch about low IQ players, there are guys out there who have less talent or upside, but can shoot respectably and are smart players

It is time to make a change. Start over. I was completely embarrassed by the attendance. My sister was in town and joined me at FTA to watch a crucual game for our Cats. The arena was barely half full again. The team plays uninspired. At the end of the day, I put it all on Cronins feet. He does NOTHING to promote our team. NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!! And I am sick of it. He is not capable of inspiring his team to play hard. Yes, they have to make shots but he has to will them to rebound from those missed shots and he does not do that. Sorry for the post but I am just so tired of the bad attendance. I have never seen anything like this ever. Thank God for the Xavier,West Virginia/Huggins, and Louisville fans. Otherwise, we never would have had a full arena this year.
