this post is ridiculous, simply because for 3 straight years mick constantly called out dixon's lack of day to day intensity in his post game shows, radio shows, tv shows, and press availabilities. the thing that mick liked the least about dixon was his inability to remain focused and bring intensity, especially as an upperclassman leader.
Absolutely wrong. Dixon made great strides in every aspect of his game except shooting percentage this past year. He often times sacrificed shots in order to get others involved and he paid much more attention to his d. He bought into micks philosophy and mick loved him for that. He was our 2nd most clutch player and became a leader.

I never said he wasn't replaceable. I said he's not replaceable by any one player on this roster. But he can be replaced by committee if/when mick gets them to buy into his philosophy

In the Mick Cronin era, dion is in the group consisting of bishop, Vaughn and yancy. He has done a lot for our program, fought through tough adversity(wv MSG game) and led this team to a be championship game and sweet 16. I will not let you desecrate his reputation

That's not at all what I implied, on either count.
It wasn't a harsh thing to call him a mediocre athlete. That's taking it the wrong way.
I never said Dixon couldn't be replaced, there are better guards.
I just don't think SK has the handle, the defense or the explosiveness and Parker hasn't got the hops or the explosiveness. He had a unique set of talents.

The program will move on, I'm just saying, his contributions were necessary last season. A lot of pressure will be on the newbs. They'll have to step up, to make up for the rebounds and scoring and clutch plays that left after last season.

Anyone denying that, obviously didn't watch this team during the tourny.
I'm starting to think you didn't watch the team at all because dixon wasn't explosive either and of course his contributions were necessary because they had a young bench. I like dixon but that guy would have started for alot of teams

did you read my post? i exclusively spoke about his intensity. i spoke of nothing in which you responded.

you said mick loved dion's intensity. i said mick publicly called out dion for his lack of intensity routinely, every week for 3 years. thats it.

davis is nowhere close to the athlete that dixon was. dixon was a plus athlete and davis is a mediocre athlete by college basketball standards.

however, i do think that sanders takes the biggest jump of the freshmen this past year. he can really shoot it. hopefully he feels more comfortable in the flow of the game this year.

He didn't play a ton, but Davis shot it better than Sanders last year in real games...shot only 31 3's, but made them at a higher percentage than anyone on the team (unless you count Yancy's 2-5) :p

You are off base here. The season is long and sooner or later EVERY player from every team in the country is going to be in the coach's doghouse at one time or another. It's Why are you holding dion to a ridiculous standard?

I would expect a "plus athlete" to get a few more boards than Dixon did his senior year - he was out-rebounded by all the other guards...he played the most minutes of anyone on the team save Kilpatrick (only 7 fewer minutes), and yet Kilpatrick had far more boards than Dixon, as did Wright, (with fewer minutes), and Parker (bunch more boards with way fewer minutes).

What with the very poor shooting, I'm not sure how all that athleticism manifested itself. I think he was a solid overall player, just not all that irreplaceable.

Dixon did really excel at getting to the line...he shot 166 free throws last year - next highest was Gates, with 106.

Dixon was one of those hate him or love him guys. He had the mentality that he can take anyone off the dribble, which is both a gift and a curse. The team will miss his swagger, but in terms of production we can hope that by year 2 Shaq will make up for it.

Agreed. Shaq has the potential to be better(and will be by his senior year or earlier) than Dixon.

1. you still have a young/inexperienced bench.
2. Only upperclassmen make the kind of plays he did against FSU.
3. He iced several games for us. That quality isn't in every player.

Based on the play of the frosh last year, I can't just presume they have said qualities.
They've done nothing to deserve that kind of respect yet.
The hell he wasn't explosive, how many times did he get by his man? Plenty.

While he didn't always make his shots, he wasn't a spot up shooter. He could create his own shot. I don't see that quality in Guyn or JDIII at this moment.
I'm not even sure Kilpatrick has it. I still feel like he's best in transition and as a spot up shooter.

like I said I liked dixon for what he was, I just don't see what you see in him. you make him sound like a dominating force with the way you are describing him game.

what standard am i holding him to? i am simply quoting cronin. not my words. his.

listen to micks postgames. listen to his fs-ohio show. listen to his wow weekly show. listen to his weekly media availabilities. he constantly harped on how with dion it was a great challenge keeping them focused every day.

your arguments have no basis at all. all i have done is quote mick. not my standard. its his.

See I thought he just made Dixon seem a hell of a lot better than anything Guyn or JDIII have shown so far. Seems reasonable to me.

You are trying to bash him based on a few cherry picked quotes taken out of context. Dion is the 2nd or at worst 3rd most important player during the mick Cronin era

This thread has gone crazy. Dion was a great Bearcat and played with all heart! He helped move this program forward in a lot of ways, there should be ABSOLUTELY no bashing of this young man on a Bearcat board. I can not believe this is going on.

I stand corrected...chaos.

Well said!

Dixon played a huge role in the Cat's resurgence. I used to cringe at some of his ill advised 3 pointers, but he came to us at a time when UC wasn't exactly at the top of every recruit's mind.

I like the idea of looking at the most important players of the Cronin era. I would say:

- Yancy
- Cash
-Vaughn: was he a cronin recruit? He was our offense for a while
- Kilpatrick
- Bishop
- Dixon
- Stevenson
- Parker
- John Williamson: One of the orginal Cronin guys that the shouldn't be forgotten either. He would be a beast with the current team.
- Justin Jackson

Clearly the list is debatable but could be a fun conversation.

you are hopeless to discuss anything with. i don't know why i tried.

Great idea. You should start the thread. It would be fun
