Funny thing about this game. Was the officiating good? No. Not really. But just this week on the radio show, Coach Cronin was talking about how the losers are always the ones whining about the refs...then after the game he goes on and whines about the refs. He's clearly aware of how that looks and the point that every loser has a story. Why can't he help himself? How many years in until he becomes more of a gracious loser? Obviously no one likes losing. But not everyone whines like that every time it happens. Just seemed odd to me considering the timing of his comments on the radio show.

Shouldn't spend time trying to analyze Mick's words. He contradicts himself, says things that simply false and exaggerates when he gets defensive. It's a waste of time.

Kyle was disappointing. His emotions were similar to Ellis last night. I fully expect him to change that. Dumb fouls for sure.
We all thought Kyle was going to the Show, but he has come back to earth.
Mick said something to the tune of "Kyle is a finesse player and that won't work against a tough team". I hope Kyle is way tougher bc nothing's gonna come easy for him from here on out. ( nor for Jacob).

Guys I am not going to get to wrapped around the axile about losing to Butler at Hinkle. They have talent and where coming off a loss. They are very tough in that building. What I saw was a very big disparity in how the game was called. Heck they even banked in two 3 pointers. Washington let the emotions get the best of him and 3 of his fouls were of the case of the Dumba## variety. He has to understand he is a leader on this team and can not allow himself to become a non factor by getting himself in foul trouble.

Lets keep building on a very nice start and see where the season takes us. I still think we win the conference title and have a nice seed in the tourney.

Def agree. Of course anytime your team loses there is panic, and we always have questions on the offensive end but it is what it is, we lost to a top 25 team on the road in a tough environment. We will move on and get better from it.

I don't think there is panic. Just wondering what we can do to stop losing 75% of our big games. My worry is that Coach Cronin thinks nothing is wrong and will just continue to run it back.

Time will tell jake. My biggest fear is that Washington will continue to pick up what I term to be Ellis fouls and we lose are best interior player for a bunch of minutes.

I haven't posted much about the game, as I was at the game and didn't want to talk about it right after the loss.

I was most disappointed in Cronin. I thought his substitutions and play-calling were pretty awful. I get that Kyle was in foul trouble (due to reeeeeally shady foul calls), but you CANNOT let Quadri play 12 minutes. It's not like Quad was the only option...Brooks played ONE minute. I think almost everyone can tell that Brooks is already ahead of Quad -- not that that's even setting the bar that high. There is just absolutely no way you can have a guy like Quad in a game like this for that long. He statistically plays the caliber of a walk-on. He kills the team in every facet. I really hate ragging on a guy like this, but it just makes no sense for him to see the floor this much. None.

I also hated how our guys in the last 6 minutes had NO idea how to pick up the pace. Cronin was screaming at them to hurry, and it looks like we don't practice a single offensive set of plays that involve going faster. I don't mind the slow pace, but it can't be your ONLY option. When you're down by 12 with 5 to do, you have zero choice but to move fast. Hell, it seemed like Butler was still shooting faster than us in the last 6 minutes. I don't really blame the players for much of that, since it looked like they just had no idea what they were doing and had never practiced it. I could be way off-base here, but that was how it appeared. If every player seems out-of-sync, that's on the coaches. Can't blame every player.

I'm telling you what I think I saw in one time out in real time... haven't gone back to confirm. But Cronin looked straight at Troy and was acting like he was holding a ball and gesturing passing back and forth. Then I saw him mouth some words which I also can't confirm without replay but I think they went something like this.

I've been telling you for 4 f-ing years to push the ball. Followed by another death glare...lol!

It was a second half timeout. Probably later in second half.

Coach Cronin will always go with the known over the unknown. Even if the known has proven that they can't get it done. He has a comfort zone that he will not be taken out of for anything. So in the biggest games, Moore will play if there's foul trouble, and Johnson will get 30 minutes. Period. Doesn't matter what they actually do out there.

Cronin took the post game show to new highs with his crying and throwing players under the bus. Glad someone was listing. His shit is getting so old, and so are the fans who support this clown and agree with him.......blaming a ten point loss on the refs? Grow up lil micky!

Pretty much called Washington a girl after the game. smh.

Well Cronin lovers, one win out of three vs teams with a heartbeat aint bad....And I'm not sure Iowa st has a heartbeat at this point. Gotta stay on point for that 8-10 seed again. So you guys should be very happy with the season so far.

The best part was blasting the Big East and how he would never schedule a Big East team again lol

So Washington grabbed zero rebounds and was easily baited by Butler. I'm not a big fan of throwing players under the bus...which he did...but Washington seems like a guy who will respond to it. I think Cronin knows that. He's done the opposite with guys like KJ...he may figure it will ruin his confidence.

I'm not into the excuse making about officiating...but he is who he is I guess.

Garbage post. Not one person here has said they're satisfied with an 8-10 seed. But keep trying to tell "Cronin supporters" what they're expecting out of a team.

It couldn't be because in his professional opinion they give him the best chance to win could it?

Of course it's his professional opinion. But he's probably the only person on earth who would go about it that way. And that 6-18 record in big games the last 3 years suggests he may not have the right idea there.

Ok yes your right he is the only guy on earth.

I'm hoping Overland at least gets a chance. Play him 27 minutes per game these next 3 easy games before conference play and see what happens.
Jake I guess my philosophy is you gain minutes by playing well in practice and taking advantage of the time you get when it is given. So far Cumberland has not apparently done that to the satisfaction of the guy who makes the decisions. I'm not going to second guess then coach. If Cumberland wants to get on the floor more he needs to pay better when he is out there. I guess I'm saying your earn your chances.

Just like every player gets evaluated on the court...our coach needs to evaluate his own performance and recognize his weakness and try to get better if he wants the results to change for the better.

You can't keep doing things the same way and expect different results. I trust Cronin to make MOST of the right decisions but his results have stagnated at a point that leaves a lot of fans wanting just a little bit more. I say a lot...not all fans. Some fans are happy with status quo.
