Jake I guess my philosophy is you gain minutes by playing well in practice and taking advantage of the time you get when it is given. So far Cumberland has not apparently done that to the satisfaction of the guy who makes the decisions. I'm not going to second guess then coach. If Cumberland wants to get on the floor more he needs to pay better when he is out there. I guess I'm saying your earn your chances.

Kevin Johnson isn't doing anything to earn chances and he's 3rd on the team in minutes........

Btw Cumberland had 8 deflections and 6 rebounds the other day. Had 10 FT attempts in a game before that. I'd say that's taking advantage of random couple minute spurts. The biggest knock on Cronin is player development. This is another prime example of wasting a chance to develop a good young player in favor of a terrible senior player. Waite your argument would be valid if Kevin Johnson was any good. But he's just not. Cumberland is being held to a different standard than Kevin Johnson. That's backwards considering their experience levels.

Cronin took the post game show to new highs with his crying and throwing players under the bus. Glad someone was listing. His shit is getting so old, and so are the fans who support this clown and agree with him.......blaming a ten point loss on the refs? Grow up lil micky!

Pretty much called Washington a girl after the game. smh.

Well Cronin lovers, one win out of three vs teams with a heartbeat aint bad....And I'm not sure Iowa st has a heartbeat at this point. Gotta stay on point for that 8-10 seed again. So you guys should be very happy with the season so far.

The best part was blasting the Big East and how he would never schedule a Big East team again lol

If you're so against the product don't watch or support the product. Maybe eventually the ratings and revenue will be so far down and then you'll see change if that's what you want. I can assure you that the players and coaches would love for you not to. They have a mentality of "you're either with us or against us" just like any athlete or coach.

iDK Jacob. A lot of his shots make it awful close to the bucket.

If this guy did anything besides staying in front of his man I would have a different opinion. As a great defender you should be leading the team in steals and get some blocks. Rebounding would also help. But Cumberland leads him in virtually every statistical category except "staying in front of your man".

We have pretty good help D. I wish we would give him a shot. Even if he gets burnt a few times...he might get some steals or blocks or points to make up for it. Cronin did NOT recruit him to be a defensive stopper and it's almost a crime to not play him for not being what Cronin already knew he wasn't.

EXACTLY. It's total bs. He is already a better all-around player than Johnson.

I think thats our biggest weakness. I think we help too much. Which results in wide open 3 point attempts with less than 2-3 seconds left on the shot clock. a guy gets beat and we all of a sudden have 2 or 3 guys try and help, leaving their man. Or our guards come down to try and double the post, when it really isnt necessary, and they kick it back out for an open shot, or we get a reach in foul

Yep. How many time have we seen this or 2 guys running out at a 3 pt shooter?

You can't have it all. We have a great D. Sometimes we give up some 3s after switching. I'll give you that.

If we had a player who was accountable for scoring more points than he cost us I would make that switch every day and twice on Sunday.

If Washington wasn't foul prone I would say let them come at us and keep defenders on the perimeter to guard against the 3. We are a great shot blocking team and always have been. Usually I would say come on into the lane...the weather is nice.

Again... we need Washington so this year it's harder to say that.

You don't get to be always ranked as a top defensive team without great help D. Just because we give up corner 3s doesn't change that. It's a necessary evil. You decide what you are willing to give up and what you aren't. Corner 3s have been what we are willing to give up. We could always decide not to...but we would have to give up something else.

If we decided not to give up corner 3s that would mean we didn't switch as much. So we would probably give up more 2s in the lane. Quite frankly I am pretty happy always being ranked as a top D so I don't question the corner 3s. A lot of fans get up in arms about it...but really the only solution is to rob Peter to pay Paul.

I dont see any reason 3 people have to swarm to help one guy. And its not just corner 3s. Its wide open shots in general. Help D is good yes, but there is no need for everyone to swarm the lane when 1 guy gets beat.

We give up too many corner 3s some will say. Yes...but we are consistently ranked as near top 10 defense I would counter.

What is the fix? Well, guard everything all the time of course. That would put us as #1 in defense every single year probably...lol. that's not too much to ask right?

We will inevitably get knocked out this year bc a team drains 3s on us. Then we'll say how unlucky we are. But maybe it's not luck and more that some teams can actually shoot it from deep.

I just wish we had a more matchup dependent approach.

That's the problem with switching. It has to happen so fast without even thinking. It's a reaction. You can't just say to your teammates..."I got this...you stay over there". Like I said it's a necessary evil...you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I get it. Pick your poison. Would we rather get beat on 2s in the lane than with corner 3s? I'm just saying it's not that easy... I am happy with a perennial top 10 D.

Completely missing the point. Yes it will be close to top 10 OVERALL. But it doesn't work the same against everyone in each game. And it's not just corner 3s. It's 3s from the wings too. Some teams know how to beat a zone. We will lose to one of those teams in the postseason. Being top 10 bc teams like USF can't crack it won't help us then.

The problem is not corner 3s. We get beat with it sometimes because we can't score enough points. We have always been great on D... complaining about ways our top 10 D gets scored on is my last worry at this point.

For me, it's really all about gameplans for specific teams and players. You can't play the same defense on a 40% 3 point shooting team that you play on a 30% 3 point shooting team. Have to adapt to other team's gameplans and very carefully watch guys that can stroke it from deep. In big games, I often don't see that. You can pack the paint and leave a Lipscomb forward open in the corner all game and it likely won't matter. Cannot do that against Butler.
