4 UC guards combined for 3 turnovers you might want to rethink that.

They could barely dribble the ball past half court and put the rest of the team in horrible spots. Not only that, their lack of ball handling prevented UC from getting into any sort of offense. They were executing pretty well until UConn turned up the pressure.

And now I see the fickleness of the Cincinnati fan come out. The great Larry Davis lost the game due to poor coaching and sub patterns? LMAO!!!!!! This was a young team in a tough environment. No shame losing to the Huskie at home. I'm disappointed the Cats weren't mentally stronger and feel the players largely gave the game away but it is what it is. On to the next.

That's just a tough game to play no matter what. Maybe some things could have been different in the 2nd half, but we just never really played with any direction in the 2nd. Was like 5 individuals, we'd share who would dribble the ball until the shot clock got really low.

Can't win them all though.

0 points for Shaq in the 2nd half after 8 in the 1st half. Just 2 points (they were awesome points) for Clark. In a weird way, I was glad KJ took 8 shots (only half from 3) and had 4 FT attempts...he just can't go 1-8.

Here's your game.
Points in the paint-CIN 22,UCONN 32

Shaq, Deberry, Ellis, Clark had 10 turnovers.

There was some hard luck as well. Several shots rolled around the rim or went in and out, but the two stats above are the game, along with UConn shooting 15 second half ft's to UC's 6.

2) The 2nd half officiating was atrocious and we definitely got homered. .

I don't know about that, I think the refs just had a really bad half. There was no consistency and they just seemed to randomly blow the whistle. Some calls went in our favor too (Deberry wasn't fouled I didn't think).

Turnovers only tell part of the story. Caupain needs to take charge, demand the ball and get the team into whatever offense they're running. Len Elmore made an astute point that late in the shot clock, Boatright took the ball and made something out of nothing. Caupain was often off the ball and too willing to allow other players (i.e. poor ballhandlers and decision makers) to have the ball. Troy also needs to get the ball over the half court quicker. I counted 3-4 times he almost got a 10 second violation with no ball pressure whatsoever.

Not trying to bury the kid. He's young. But I'd like to see him start to develop an "it's my team" attitude. He has all the physical and basketball attributes and obviously his numbers were solid today. Boatright was the difference simply in taking charge.

UConn only had 8 FT attempts until the last 90 seconds.

The plethora of foul calls early in the second half , which followed the momentum shift just before half, completely altered our mojo and seemed to put us in a funk that we could never recover from. We may be the worst team in the country on offense with the shot clock running out.

Overall the officiating was fine but the late travel call on Clark was atrocious. His pivot foot never moved.

That said, Clark got a crash course in old-school Big East basketball today. He looked tentative. The over pump faking needs to stop and much like Caupain, he needs to develop some attitude on the court. He's going to have his ups and downs as a frosh. Seems like a really nice kid, I hope he adds some snarl to his game. He was better than any of those UConn kids that were strutting and yapping up and down the court.

That is just the style they play and this happens every single game. I think Troy would love to get up and down the court all game, but that's just not the system UC runs.

We couldn't really run any offense today as their bigs just dominated ours. Brimah on Clark ended his day, and Ellis has never really had low post moves (Clark is much more polished down low).

To expect Caupain to do what Boatright done isn't really fair. If he's not demanding the ball as a Sr, then we can talk about it.

First of all, there's no shame in losing on the road at UCONN. I think we are the better team and it was a game that sadly was there for the taking....much like Nebraska. Some thoughts....

1) The momentum shift that occurred with Cobb's bonehead play just before half was huge. It's hard to blame one play for a loss, but in this particular loss, that one was huge.

2) The 2nd half officiating was atrocious and we definitely got homered. We were in the bonus quick and the discrepancy in FTs was the difference in the game. They shot almost twice as many as we did.

3) Other than Caupain, our guard play was atrocious. Still struggling with the amount of time given to KJ. He hurt us, but in this game, so did Cobb.

4) The inside game on offense was also horrible. Clark may have had his worse game.

5) Quadri was a breath of fresh air and is a real bright spot to take away from the game.

6) The effort was great and the defense was active. Again, the refs are the only reason UCONN got to 60.

In spite of some negatives, we could have won and we'll learn from this. Let's get the next two!

Some great observations here. Agreed wholeheartedly with #1. I'm not sure we should ever deliberately go into "wind the shot clock down" mode, because our regular offense already does that.

Guard play was an issue. Too many tentative, empty possessions with no floor leader that resulted in FB layups on the other end. Most of UConn's PIP discrep was on open floor layups off a UC possession that consisted of soft perimeter passes and not even looking at the hoop.

Overall, another good learning experience for the pups. They'll win this game later in the year.

He jumped stepped then head faked and when brim ah didn't bite he took a step. Once you leave both feet and land there is no pivot foot.

Brimah had his left hand on him or it would have been a clean block. I also thought Deberry's 2 missed ft's were a big moment then as UC was down 50-47 with a chance to pull to 1 down. He can shoot ft's better than that too. UC later stole the ball after the misses and cut it to 50-49 so 1 or 2 made ft's would have tied it or put UC up 1. The next 1:14 was when the game was lost.

Boatright scored a lay up UConn 52-49. Caupain misses a lay up that hung on the rim, TC gets the offensive rebound, Moore misses an open 3 that went down and popped out, Caupain again gets the offensive rebound but misses the tip in, Shaq gets an offensive board and KJ's lay up is blocked. Calhoun then hits a 3 for UConn and the lead is 6. Cincinnati could never get over the hump after.

I'm not a rules expert, but I didn't think you could pivot after driving the lane with the ball and coming to a jump stop. Once he picked up one foot, they called the travel.

Was a clear travel...

Have to wonder if some around here have ever played basketball??

We lost to a really good team on the road. We played hard and fought. It came down to which team had scorers. They hit big shots down the stretch and we didn't. Have to regroup and move on. Would've been a nice one to win. I thought as physical a game as it was that we did good to score as much as we did. A month ago they might not have broken 40 in this game. The rematch might be a must win to win the title outright.

Don't understand why Deberry didn't try to block Boatright's shot at half. He was there but backed off and gave him the layup. I say go for the block and if you foul him, so be it. He'll have to earn the 2 pts.on the line. I don't think Deberry had any fouls at that time. That whole sequence is hard for me to step away from. It was a huge moment in the game.
