Wow, Deveroes is about to start up

a good shot blocker tends to lack in rebounds because they are busy trying to alternate shots but it's his defense he's needs to concentrate on anyway and will be just fine. he showed he can be a good put back and lob threat on offense

but he doesn't even rebound his area well. he doesn't "go after" balls in his area or within his reach. he waits for the ball to come to him.

look at stats against arkansas- pine bluff and chicago st. if he can give you around 7 rebounds and 7 blocks that's good

The key to how far we go this year will be Cheikh. If he is up to the challenge we'll be fine. I know his injury took a lot of his effectiveness away last year but still playing the middle in BE is no easy assignment. Rubles and Jackson don't have the bulk to defend in the paint. They will come off their man and block a occasional shot but neither is a guy who can guard a true big. An example there is no one on this team who can guard Louisville's bigs. Please don't mistake me for a fair wheather fan. I'm a huge Cat supporter but not getting a big will hurt in my opinion.

Cheikh has dropped something like 25 pounds to get into better shape for the upcoming season. You can never predict injuries, but he seems like he's doing what he needs to do to put himself in position to have a solid year. I really hope Jackson is working hard also. A little more composure on offense, avoiding silly fouls, and short to mid-range jumper would do wonders for the team.

I think you're right about L'ville's bigs, but we have to consider not many teams will have a backcourt to compete with us or have so many versatile pieces. Also, Shaq having a year to learn and develop could translate into some quality minutes.

I'm really glad to see Sanders having big stat lines. Last year, he looked unconfident, lost and most troubling of all...slow. Based on his last year's game performances, I wondered if he'd ever have the quickness to be a scorer and D it up at this level. His two stat lines in the Deveroes league are certainly promising.

I think JDIII will have some value. Eventually, there might be some issues harnessing him in. He sure wasn't afraid to shoot for a freshman last year. But I think with 3 good experienced guards, Mick will pick his spots and use him well.

For the short term, I'm certaintly excited. Obviously we have 3 great guards coming back in Cash, SK and Parker...and at least one proven big with JJ. We absolutely need one or more of JDIII, Shaq or Sanders to step up. And we absolutely need 1 and preferably 2 of Chiek, Rubles and Gaines to step up.

By the way. Dixon was an awesome Bearcat. He was a good and solid player and along with Vaughn, Bishop and Yancy, was integral to getting this program back on track. We should all be grateful for him. Sure he disappeared at times but he had some huge moments and generally was dependable to get 12+ a night. And I will never forget that steal, dunk against FSU...Never. I'm going to youtube it now actually.

I'm pretty sure I'll soon forget the WVU loss but that FSU memory is not going anywhere.

People were worried last season and they won 26 games and went to the Sweet 16. UC will be very good again this coming season. The pieces will be put in place. Guys that haven't played much will get practice reps/game minutes and improve as the season progresses. Parker, Cash, Kilpatrick with be the spearhead obviously, but Cheihk, Thomas, Sanders, and Jackson will also contribute. They will have enough bench with Rubles, Davis, Guyn, Gaines and team versatillity to be very good.

JJ had 14pts 12rbs 6 assists 7blocks & 7 TOs in a win with Slats tonight. Quite a stat line. Can't wait to see him back on the court, hopefully learning to play a bit less wreckless as far as fouls go. He also shot 8-11 from the Ft line.

7 blocks and 7 TO's?!? Only J Jack. I wonder if that's been done before.

Yeah, the reckless playing is kind of a double edged sword...makes him exciting, and with his athleticism he can pull off some amazing feats, but the loss of control takes it all back. If he could maintain the high motor without coughing up the ball, he'd be incredible.

From what I am hearing, Shaq Thomas and Semaj Christon had a battle on Sunday and both played very well.

Shaq ended up with 21 and 9.

Semaj is ok but shaq embarrassed him quite a bit. Semaj will probably start on Xavier but he'd be well behind cash, jd3 and g squared on the uc depth chart(if he even made the team)

I'm not sure that you're a real UC fan

Christon had 34,7 and 4 with the win.

Thomas had 21,9 and 3.

The both played well, but what would make you say that Shaq embarrassed him?

Um did you not see shaq pick semajs pocket with the game on the line? Or shaq completely dominate 2nd half?

My only concern is rebounding, defending the post, and foul trouble with the bigs.

Worst case scenario Bearcats still win a bunch despite that due to great guard play. Best case scenario, some of the bigs make significant jumps and this team is really, really good.

I wasn't at the game, but it's tough to say one player was embarrassed after looking at the stat line. I also read that Semaj had an "and one" over Shaq. Does the fact that shaq did well in the second half and ended with 21 points mean that he didn't show up the first half?

Shaq: 3/6 first half, 4/5 second half, 1/2 overtime
Semaj: 7/10, 5/9, 1/1

They both played well and it doesn't look like either was embarrassed.
